ASTM E298-2017 Standard Test Method for the Determination of Organic Peroxides

Meaning and use

3.1 Organic peroxides are widely used as chemical intermediates, catalysts and initiators. These test methods provide procedures for the determination of organic peroxides to determine their suitability for their intended use.

ASTM E298-2017 Standard Test Method for the Determination of Organic Peroxides

Step 1: Scope

1.1 These test methods include the determination of organic peroxides. According to the ease of reduction, two procedures are given:

1.1.1 Sodium iodide, room temperature test method, easy reduction of organic peroxides, and

1.1.2 Sodium iodide, 60°C test method, suitable for moderately stable organic peroxides.

1.2 Review the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for details on toxicity, first aid procedures and safety precautions.

1.3 Values expressed in SI units shall be regarded as standard values. The values given in parentheses are for reference only.

1.4 This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.5 The international standard is based on internationally recognized standardization principles established in the “Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations” issued by the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) of the World Trade Organization.
