Coating -4 cups viscosity test procedures, instruments and methods of use

The coating -4 cup viscosity test is a method used to determine the size of the viscosity of a sample such as paint under kinematic viscosity conditions. This test is suitable for samples with an outflow time between 10 and 150 seconds, and the viscosity is determined by the time the sample exits from a specified aperture at a specified temperature. This paper will introduce the test procedure, instrument and application method of the Tu-4 cup viscometer, as well as the related precautions and results.

Instruments and reagents

The instruments required to perform the coating -4 cup viscosity test include coating -4 cup viscometer, tray balance, beaker, thermometer, etc. In addition, diluting solvents and glass rods are required for the preparation and stirring of the test solution.

Preparatory work

Before conducting the test, you need to prepare the test fluid. First, about 150mL of the test liquid is weighed in a beaker, and then 100g of the test substance is dissolved by stirring with a glass rod. If the measured substance needs to be diluted, it should be dissolved with the corresponding solvent and fully stirred to dissolve. In addition, the coating -4 viscometer needs to be checked to ensure that there is no residual adhesion on its surface.

Procedure of use

Inject the test liquid into the viscometer, plug the outflow hole with your finger, and scrape the excess test liquid into the groove at the edge of the viscometer after filling.

Release the finger, the test liquid flows out vertically, start the stopwatch at the same time, stop the stopwatch when the test liquid flows out into a line shape and disconnects, and record the outflow time as the viscosity value.

After the test is completed, clean the viscometer with cotton dipped in the corresponding solvent to ensure cleanliness.

Result presentation and precautions

The test result is expressed as the arithmetic mean of the measured values of two parallel samples, and the difference between the two measured values of parallel tests is required to be no more than 3% of the mean value. During the test, it is necessary to pay attention to check the cleanliness of the Tu-4 viscometer to avoid residues affecting the test results. In addition, the sample temperature is too high or too low will lead to viscosity error, should ensure that the sample is tested at the specified temperature.

Reference standard

The test method follows the national standard GB/T 1723 “Coating viscosity determination method”.

As an important method to evaluate the viscosity of coatings, the coating -4 cup viscosity test has wide application value in coating and other fields. The standardized operation and accuracy of the method ensure the reliability of the test results, and provide a strong support for the production and quality control of coatings.
