Determination of paint flow time. Varnishes and similar coatings are used to obtain characteristic values that can be used as a simple aid in assessing the fluidity and suitability of such products.

AUS 53211-1987 “Bestimmung der Auslaufzeit mit DIN-Auslaufbechern für Lacke, Lacke und ähnliche Beschichtungsstoffe”

DIN flow cups are not suitable for determining flow rates of less than 25 Sekunden (corresponding to kinematic viscosity of about 90 mm2/s). When using an ISO 2431 flow cup, the flow time should not exceed 150 Sekunden (equivalent to a kinemical viscosity of approximately 700 mm2/s).
