ISO (הארגון הבינלאומי לתקינה) היא ברית גלובלית של גופי תקינה לאומיים (גופים חברי ISO). פיתוח תקנים בינלאומיים מתבצע בדרך כלל באמצעות ועדות טכניות של ISO. כל מוסד חבר המעוניין בנושא שעליו הוקמה ועדה טכנית זכאי להיות מיוצג באותה ועדה. ארגונים ממשלתיים ולא-ממשלתיים בינלאומיים המקיימים קשר עם ISO מעורבים גם הם בעבודה זו. The properties of protective coatings applied to steel and related products are significantly affected by the state of the steel surface before coating. הגורמים העיקריים הידועים כמשפיעים על ביצועים אלה הם

These international standards do not contain recommendations for protective coating systems applied to steel surfaces. They do not contain recommendations for surface quality requirements for specific cases, even though surface quality will have a direct impact on the choice of protective coatings and their properties. These recommendations are found in other documents such as national standards and codes of practice. These international standards are used to ensure specified quality

This document describes general principles for selecting methods for preparing steel surfaces prior to the application of paints and related products. It also contains information about the characteristics to consider when selecting and specifying certain surface treatments and preparation grades.
