ISO 12625-11-2019 “Toilet paper and sanitary paper products – Part 11: Determination of wet bulb bursting strength”

introduction
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document and those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editing rules of ISO/IEC Directive Part 2 (see iso.org/directives).

This document has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 6, Paper, Board and Pulp, Sub-Committee SC 2, Test Methods and Quality Specifications for Paper and board.

The second edition cancelled and replaced the first edition (ISO 12625-11:2012), which was a minor revision.

The main changes from the previous edition are as follows:

– In article 12, add a new “h)” indicating “clamping ring diameter (89 mm or 50 mm)”.

A list of all parts in the ISO 12625 series can be found on the ISO website.

Any feedback or questions regarding this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A complete list of these institutions can be found at iso.org/members.html.

introduce
This document applies to tissue paper and tissue products. In principle, it can be applied to other types of paper, but this document is not included.

1 Range
This document specifies a test method for determining the mechanical permeability resistance of tissue paper and tissue paper products after wetting (ball burst strength procedure).

3.1 Blasting force FD

The test piece of tissue paper or tissue paper product is applied perpendicular to its surface with the greatest force that it can withstand under test conditions

[Source: ISO 12625-9:2015, 3.2, modified – Right Angle changed to vertical]

Note 1: The blasting force is expressed in Newtons (N).

3.2 Wet blasting force

Maximum force, the maximum force that a tissue paper or tissue paper product wetting test piece can withstand under test conditions, applied perpendicular to its surface

Note 1: Wet blasting force is expressed in millinewtons (mN).

ISO 12625-11-2019 “Toilet paper and sanitary paper products – Part 11: Determination of wet bulb bursting strength”

3.3 Wet explosion index

The wet bursting force of tissue paper or tissue products divided by the gram weight of the regulated sample determined by the standard test method

Note 1: The wet explosion index is expressed in millinewtons square meters per gram (mN · m2 /g).

3.4 Wet blasting retention

The ratio of the bursting strength of a wet paper towel or wet paper towel product to the bursting strength of the same tissue paper or paper towel product under dry and conditioned conditions, expressed as a percentage

Note 1: This definition is similar to the definition of wet tensile strength retention; See ISO 12625-5:2016, 3.2.
