ISO 1514-2016 “Paints and varnishes – Standard Sample for testing”

A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document as well as those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive (see iso.org/directives).

The committee responsible for this document is ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, General test methods for paints and varnishes.

Fifth edition to cancel and replace the fourth edition (ISO 1514:2004), which is revised on technology, made the following changes:

A) the method of preparation of the zinc phosphate and chromate treatment, chromate conversion coating and acid chromium, remove;

B) to modify the following materials: coil coating board, plastic board, glass fiber reinforced plastic composite board, carbon fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) composite panels (CFP);

ISO 1514-2016 “Paints and varnishes – Standard Sample for testing”

c) The original annex B on the characteristics of zinc and zinc alloy coatings has been deleted;

d) A new annex B is added to the universal substrate surface board;

e) Normative references have been updated.

Introduction
For many of the most widely used test methods for paints and varnish, the type of panel used and the particular way in which it is prepared for use can greatly affect the test results. As carefully as possible before painting, therefore, standardization of panels and used for preparation procedure is very important.

It is not possible to include in international standards all the types of panels and preparations required for paint testing

This international standard describes preparation procedures that are known to be reproducible and provides additional guidance in cases where there may still be doubt due to a lack of international uniformity of procedures.

ISO 1514-2016 “Paints and varnishes – Standard Sample for testing”

1 Scope
This international standard specifies several types of standard panels and describes procedures for preparing them before painting. These standard panels are used for general test methods for paints, varnishes and related products (see Annex B).
