ISO 2812-2-2018 “Determination of liquid resistance of paints and varnishes – Part 2: Immersion method”

A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document as well as those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive (see iso.org/directives).

Please note that certain contents of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of any patent rights identified during the preparation of the document will be in the introduction and/or in the list of patent claims received by ISO (see iso.org/patents).

Any trade names used in this document are provided as information for the convenience of the user and do not constitute an endorsement.

Voluntary, related standards and conformity assessment related ISO specific terminology and express the meaning of and the ISO in the technical barriers to trade (TBT) adhere to the principle of the world trade organization (WTO) information, please see the iso.org/iso/foreword.html.

This document is prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, General Test methods for paints and varnishes.

ISO 2812-2-2018 “Determination of liquid resistance of paints and varnishes – Part 2: Immersion method”

The third edition eliminates and replaces the technically revised second edition (ISO 2812-2:2007). Compared with the previous edition, the main changes are as follows:

– Added terms and definitions (Article 3);

– Reference to tank size has been changed to for reference only;

– The Angle of the test plate support has been changed from 15° to 20° to 0° to 20°;

– The tolerance of water temperature is changed from ±1°C to ±2°C;

— Rearrange the test panel has been changed to “if specified” because it is not always necessary to rearrange the test panel.

A list of all parts in the ISO 2812 series can be found on the ISO website.

Any feedback or questions regarding this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A full list of these agencies can be found at iso.org/members.html.

ISO 2812-2-2018 “Determination of liquid resistance of paints and varnishes – Part 2: Immersion method”

1 Scope
This document specifies a method for determining the resistance of a single or multi-layer coated material system to water effects by partial or complete immersion.

This method allows determining the effect of water on the coating and, if necessary, assessing the damage to the substrate.
