ISO 6860-2006 “Paint and varnish bending test (conical shaft)”

A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

International standards are drafted according to the rules given in Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive.

The main task of the technical committee is to develop international standards. Draft international standards adopted by the Technical Committee will be circulated to member bodies for voting. Publication as an international standard requires approval by at least 75% of member institutions.

Please note that certain contents of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

ISO 6860-2006 “Paint and varnish bending test (conical shaft)”

ISO 6860 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, General test methods for paints and varnishes.

The second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 6860:1984), which has been technically revised. The main changes are:

– an indication of the rolling direction of the aluminum plate is added in paragraph 5.1;

— The diameter of the small end of the cone has been changed to (3,1 ± 0,1) mm so that the equipment standardized in ASTM conforms to international standards;

— The text has been edited and revised.

ISO 6860-2006 “Paint and varnish bending test (conical shaft)”

Introduction
This international standard is one of five documents (see also ISO 1519, ISO 1520, ISO 6272-1 and ISO 6272-2) that provide empirical test procedures for the evaluation of the resistance of paints, varnish and related product coatings to cracking and/or exfoliation from substrates under different deformation conditions.

1 Scope
This INTERNATIONAL standard describes an empirical test procedure for evaluating the resistance of paints, varnishes or related product coatings to cracking and/or shedding from metal substrates when bent around tapered manshafts under standard conditions.

For multi-coating systems, each coating can be tested individually or the entire system can be tested.
