ISO 9117-2-2010 Drying tests for paints and varnishes – Part 2: Test for palletizing resistance

introduction
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

International standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive.

The main task of the technical committee is to develop international standards. The draft international standard adopted by the Technical Committee will be circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an international standard requires approval by at least 75% of member institutions.

Please note that certain elements of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patents.

ISO 9117-2 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, General Test Methods for paints and varnishes.

The first edition of ISO 9117-2 eliminated and replaced the technically revised ISO 4622:1992. The main changes are as follows:

A) The method has been integrated into the ISO 9117 series as part 2 for the determination of dryness of paints and varnishes;

b) the “Terms and definitions” clause has been added;

c) The addition of the “Principles” clause;

d) The requirement for relative humidity during surgery is removed, that is, testing in a climate chamber is not required;

e) The text entitled “Additional information required” in the original annex A has been incorporated into the test report.

ISO 9117-2-2010 Drying tests for paints and varnishes – Part 2: Test for palletizing resistance

ISO 9117 consists of the following parts, under the general heading Paints and varnishes – Drying Tests:

– Part 1: Determination of drying state and drying time

– Part 2: Stress testing for stackability

– Part 3: Surface drying test using Balotini

The following sections are in preparation:

– Part 4: Testing using a mechanical recorder

– Part 5: Modified Bando-Wolff test

1 Range
This part of ISO 9117 specifies a test method for determining, under standard conditions, whether a single-layer paint film or multi-paint system or paint or related material is sufficiently dry after a specified drying period to resist damage to two painted surfaces or one painted surface in contact with another surface under pressure.

The method is designed to simulate the conditions when painted items are stacked on top of each other.

Note that in some countries, this test is called a “blocking” test.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 Stackability
Resist damage caused by unnecessary adhesion between adjacent surfaces of items, which can form when these items come into contact
