3.1 Tests of the type described in this protocol can be used to assess the corrosion resistance of organic coatings on metal products exposed to high salt environments, such as areas subjected to deicing salts or coastal areas. Exposure conditions are complex and variable. Important factors include climate, time of year, presence of pollution, eccetera. Generalmente, it is difficult, if not impossible, to precisely define or measure all the factors that influence degradation. Repeated exposure tests in different seasons and over a period of at least two years are required to obtain results that are representative of any given site.

3.2 It is necessary to always use a control sample because this is a comparative test.

Ambito di applicazione
1.1 This practice is intended to assist in the procedures to be followed when undertaking outdoor exposures to assess the appearance corrosion that may occur in steel plates covered with damaged organic coatings. The outdoor exposure described was based on practice G7, which involved regular wetting of the test samples with a salt solution.

1.2 The method of preparing the specimens and the special exposure requirements of the materials are beyond the scope of this practice.
