Principle and operation points of vacuum drying oven

A vacuum drying oven is a common laboratory device used to remove moisture or other solvents from a sample at low pressure and low temperatures. The working principle is based on creating a low-pressure environment that lowers the boiling point on the surface of the sample, thereby enabling the evaporation and volatilization of water at lower temperatures. The following is the working principle and operation points of the vacuum drying oven:

How it works:
Vacuum pump pumping: When the samples in the drying chamber are placed and closed, the vacuum pump begins to extract the air in the chamber, gradually reducing the pressure and creating a low-pressure environment.

Reduced boiling point: Due to the low pressure environment, the boiling point of the sample surface is reduced. This means that water can evaporate and volatilize at lower temperatures without the need for high temperatures.

Water evaporation: The water in the sample begins to be affected by lower ambient pressure and gradually evaporates and volatilizes into water vapor.

Vacuum exhaust: The vacuum pump will remove the water vapor in the drying chamber to maintain a low pressure environment.

Operating points:
Sample preparation: Make sure your samples are neatly arranged to avoid overlapping or obstructing air flow. The sample must be able to dry safely under low pressure to avoid the spill of volatile substances.

Vacuum pump operation: Turn on the vacuum pump and connect it to the drying oven. Start the vacuum pump and begin the pumping process. Some devices may have automatic control systems that can set the desired vacuum level.

Setting parameters: Open the drying box control panel and set the required temperature and vacuum. These parameters are set according to the needs of your experiment.

Principle and operation points of vacuum drying oven

Start drying: Close the oven door and start the drying process. Make sure the samples and temperature Settings in the oven meet your requirements.

Monitor the process: During the drying process, you can monitor changes in temperature and vacuum through indicators on the control panel. Make sure they stay within the desired range.

End drying: After the set drying time arrives, close the drying oven and vacuum pump. Allow drying oven to return to normal pressure.

Take out the sample: Carefully open the drying oven door and take out the dried sample. Please note that the sample may be very hot and appropriate protective gear is required.

Cleaning and maintenance: After use, remove the residue and dirt in the drying oven. Maintain equipment regularly to ensure its normal operation.

Operating a vacuum drying oven requires some professional knowledge and experience. Be sure to read the equipment’s operating manual before operation and follow the laboratory’s safe operating procedures.
