The application of colorimeter in ink industry

Colorimeters are widely used in all walks of life. No matter in which industry, the colorimeter is closely connected with it. In this colorful world, color management is indispensable in all industries, but some industries have relatively low requirements for color. But in the ink industry, the situation is different, the requirements for color difference are very strict, so color management can not be treated carelessly.

Many external factors may lead to the ink color problem, and the ink itself also exists between the same batch and different batches of color problem, which is an important indicator to measure the quality of ink. However, the color of ink cannot be simply judged by the naked eye, which requires the help of a special color measuring instrument, that is, a colorimeter, for detection and judgment. It is recommended to use the same batch of ink in the printing process (especially when modulating special color ink to ensure that one time is enough), because in different batches of ink, some ink is difficult to ensure that the color is consistent. Therefore, if a batch of ink does not print out all the products required, it is necessary to strictly check the selection of the next batch, use the colorimeter for careful detection and comparison, and choose the digital color without or very small gap of products to buy.

Inspection of ink quality

We should require ink suppliers to provide corresponding information, and the technical indicators of ink testing, including ink color, coloring, viscosity, light resistance, heat resistance and so on.

Detection of ink color and tinting power

Color and coloring force are the basic items of ink detection, they have a great influence on the color of ink. Color is the specific characteristics of ink color, optically corresponding to a certain wavelength and frequency of light, such as red, yellow, blue, etc. The detection principle of colorimeter is also through the detection of these spectra, and the color quantification and data, so that users can more intuitively understand the change of color. Coloring force refers to the degree of color change of one ink to another ink. In the deployment of spot ink, when one of the original ink hue or coloring force changes, the color of the spot ink will also change. For the color detection of ink, the importance of colorimeter is that it has a great impact on the accuracy of ink printing effect. Therefore, the colorimeter is indispensable whether the printer chooses the ink or the ink manufacturer ensures that there is no color difference between the same ink batch.

Detection of hue

For newly supplied ink, it is usually necessary to adjust its viscosity to the previous viscosity and use a printing press for sample proofing. You can display the color of the ink on the actual printed matter, or the ink drops on the color wheel with adjusted pressure, and drag on the surface of the substrate at a certain pressure and speed to form a color belt as the color sample. An ink scraping stick can also be used. Observe the effect of these proofs, if the ink layer is uniform and smooth, well colored, has a certain luster, the ink is strong, and is basically consistent with the standard color card provided by the supplier, then the color of the ink meets the requirements. Finally, a certain amount of ink can be saved as a reference wet color sample, in the next color detection for comparison. In the next purchase of the same model of ink, can not only rely on the naked eye observation, because the naked eye observation has certain limitations, color beyond a certain range of the naked eye is undetectable, so the use of colorimeter can more accurately provide the required correct ratio.

For once used ink, the viscosity can be adjusted to the appropriate value, and use the color wheel to make a good sample. Then it is compared with the qualified color sample or standard color sample retained last time to preliminarily test whether the color is consistent. Another method is to test the ink and the last test qualified ink wet color sample drops on the color wheel, and about 1 centimeter apart from a few drops, and then scrape out two adjacent ribbons. By comparing these two ribbons, you can accurately determine whether the hue is the same.

In fact, there are many other applications of colorimeters in the ink industry. In this paper, the influence of colorimeter on ink hue detection is briefly analyzed, and other aspects will not be described here. However, it is clear from the influence of the colorimeter on the ink hue that the colorimeter is a very necessary tool in the ink industry.
