ИСО (Међународна организација за стандардизацију) је глобални савез националних тела за стандардизацију (Тела чланица ИСО). Развој међународних стандарда се обично спроводи преко ИСО техничких комитета. Liquid turbidity measurements can be made visually or instrumentally, but visual methods can be subjective. The method is used to measure the light scattering of insoluble matter in liquid, so the turbidity can be determined objectively.

Turbidity in a liquid is caused by the presence of undissolved material (тј. non-settling flocculation, gel, or other suspended matter such as particles or droplets). In the case of finely dispersed undissolved matter, turbidity can be determined by measuring the intensity of light scattered by particles as the beam passes through the liquid.

This standard specifies an instrumental method for determining turbidity of clear liquids. It is applicable to resins and resin solutions, растварачи, clear coating materials, monomers and any other liquids of specified clarity.
