The application of paper thickness gauge in measuring the thickness of paper and board

In the paper and cardboard production and related fields, the thickness of the paper is an important parameter, which directly affects the quality of the products and performance. In order to accurately measure the thickness of the paper and cardboard, thickness gauge is a common type of testing instrument, also known as the thickness measuring instrument, micrometer or micrometer.

Structure and working principle

The electric thickness gauge mainly consists of a standard measuring head and a frame that can perform the measuring action. The frame is equipped with parts such as motor, CAM and lever. The operation of the motor driven CAM, CAM movement makes heavy thallium measurement of contact pressure, through up and down movement can measure the thickness of the finish. The measured results will be displayed on the meter.

Technical parameters

The main technical parameters of the electric thickness gauge include measuring range, measuring accuracy, contact pressure, contact area and lifting speed. The measuring range is usually 0~3mm, the measuring accuracy is determined by the precision of the meter head, the contact pressure is (1±0.1)kgf/cm², the contact area is (2±0.05)cm², the rising and falling speed is 8 times/min, the rising speed is 2mm/s, and the falling speed is 1mm/s.

The calibration procedure

Before using dynamic thickness meter measuring, the need for calibration. First, start the motor will measure the head fell to the lowest position, observe the dial gauge pointer and pointer to rotate the dial to zero. Then, press the button to make the measuring head repeatedly rise and fall several times until the pointer stabilizes at the zero position indication.

Method of test

According to the provisions of the national standard GB 451.3, the thickness of paper and board is tested by using the electric thickness meter. The test steps are as follows:

20 pieces of 100mm×100mm (or 200mm×250mm) samples were cut and pretreated with temperature and humidity.

According to the thickness range and measurement accuracy requirements of the tested sample, select and install the micrometer, and make the pointer to zero.

Start the instrument, make the measuring head rise, clamp the sample between the upper and lower measuring surfaces, drop the measuring head for measurement, and read the measurement value within 2~5 seconds after the pointer is stable.

Lift the measuring head, move the tested sample, and make a second measurement. For single sample, the measurement point should be far away from the edge, the multi-layer sample, according to the specified point is measured, and then take the average of measured data of the total thickness of paper or cardboard.

To sum up, the thickness of the electrodynamic instrument in the test paper and cardboard thickness plays an important role, its accurate measurement and easy operating helps to ensure that the quality of the product and the desired performance standards.
