A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document as well as those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35 (Paints and Varnishes), Subcommittee SC 9 (General test methods for paints and discolorations), in cooperation with Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 (Paints and varnishes) of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), in accordance with the Technical Cooperation Agreement between ISO and CEN (Vienna Agreement).

The second edition cancels and replaces the technically revised first edition (ISO 8130-3:1992). Compared with the previous edition, the main changes are as follows:

– Scope has been edited and revised;

– Added terms and definitions (Article 3);

– The reference values for specific gravity bottles have been changed from ISO 787-10 to ISO 2811-1;

– Removed the use of acetone to clean the specific gravity bottle;

– The filling sequence of the specific gravity bottle has been changed;

– The acceptable difference between two results (article 9) is given as a percentage;

— The text has been edited and revised, and normative references have been updated.

ISO 8130-3-2021 – Powder coatings – Part 3: Determination of density in liquid replacement bottles

1 Scope
This document provides for the determination of the density of paint powder by the liquid displacement flask method. The method is based on the determination of the mass and volume of the test portion.

The density is < Coating powder of 1 g/cm3 can be measured according to ISO 1183-1 and appropriate methods.
