Betekenis en doel
5.1 The function of the test method is to provide numerical instrumental results indicating the bond and/or bonding strength of the thermoplastic pavement marker with the specified cement brick substrate.
5.2 The use of this test method allows users and manufacturers to control the quality of the product and make inferences about the performance of thermoplastic pavement marking products. The results of these tests also provide useful information for the research and development of thermoplastic pavement marking materials.
5.3 This method has been revised to be more consistent with other ASTM coating bonding methods in test methods D4541, D5179 and D7234.
5.4 Strict adherence to the outlined procedures is necessary to test the accuracy of the method. In any case, bonding strength should not be accepted unless the method is complied with.

1.1 The test method provides an instrumental means to determine the bonding strength of thermoplastic pavement marking materials using cement bricks and loading fixtures.
1.2 Waarden uitgedrukt in inch-pounds moeten als standaardwaarden worden beschouwd. De waarden tussen haakjes zijn wiskundige transformaties van SI-eenheden en dienen alleen ter referentie en worden niet als standaard beschouwd.
1.3 Deze norm is niet bedoeld om alle veiligheidsproblemen aan te pakken, indien aanwezig, die verband houden met het gebruik ervan. Het is de verantwoordelijkheid van de gebruiker van deze norm om de juiste veiligheid te garanderen, gezondheids- en milieupraktijken en om vóór gebruik de toepasbaarheid van wettelijke beperkingen vast te stellen.
1.4 Deze internationale norm is ontwikkeld in overeenstemming met de internationaal erkende standaardisatieprincipes die zijn vastgelegd in het Besluit over de beginselen voor de ontwikkeling van internationale normen, Richtlijnen en aanbevelingen uitgegeven door het Comité voor technische handelsbelemmeringen van de Wereldhandelsorganisatie.
