ASTM D2929-2011 Standard Test Method for Determination of Sulfur Content in Cellulosic Materials by X-ray Fluorescence

Betekenis en gebruik

The method provides a non-destructive method for the determination of sulfur content in cellulosic materials. Sulfur can be in the form of sulfate, which can cause thermal instability. Sulfur can also be present as a salt that can cause fog in solution.

Stap 1: Domein

1.1 The test method includes the determination of the sulphur content of cellulosic materials by X-ray fluorescence.

1.2 Using appropriate standards, the procedure ranges from about 10 ppm to 20% sulfur.

1.3 This test method is specifically designed as an alternative to test method D871, sections on procedures and calculations for importance and use, device, reagent, hydroxyl content, and test method D817, an overview of test method, importance and use, device, reagent, and procedure for hydroxyl content. When applied to cellulose esters, it measures the combination of sulfur and sulfur in the accompanying inorganic salts.

1.4 In order to determine the incorporated sulfur, the sample is first reprecipitated into dilute acid to remove the unbound sulfur compounds when soluble.

1.5 Waarden uitgedrukt in SI-eenheden worden als standaard beschouwd. De waarden tussen haakjes zijn alleen ter referentie.
