Added definitions ofgalvanizing”, “post-treatment”, “additional coating”, “wet storage stain” En “dual phase systemin Chapter 3;

-The difficulty of removing flux residues and zinc ash when access is restricted is recognized in 6.1;

The selection procedure for reference areas has been clarified, and additional requirements have been added in ISO 1461-2022 “Thermisch verzinkte coatings op staalproducten – Specificaties en testmethoden”

6.2.3 to avoid the use of reference areas on certain small auxiliary components on larger items;

Modification of the retrofit requirements for uncoated areas: removal of the requirement for zinc-containing paint pigments to comply with ISO 3549; Annex C has been extended to include additional information regarding the suitability of the different renovation methods given in 6.3;

All requirements related to coating thickness, including Tables 3 En 4, have been placed in 6.5, including requirements related to item size in control samples previously in 6.2.3; The lower coating thickness that results in ultra-low reactivity steels is recognized in the new requirements for these steel grades in 6.5;

Updated information on the corrosion resistance of galvanized coatings, including long-term corrosion resistance in reference to ISO 9224 in Appendix E.

Any feedback or questions on this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A full list of these agencies can be found at iso.org/members.html.

1 Toepassingsgebied
This document specifies the general properties of hot dip galvanized coatings and test methods for hot dip galvanized coatings applied by immersing iron and steel products (including certain castings) in a zinc melt with no more than 2% other metal content. This document does not apply to:

A) continuous hot dip galvanized sheet, wire and braided or welded mesh products;

B) Hot-dip galvanized pipes in automation equipment;

C) Hot-dip galvanized products (such as fasteners) for which specific standards exist and may include additional requirements or requirements different from those of this document.

Opmerking: Individual product standards can be incorporated into this document by referring to the number of the galvanized coating, or they can be combined with product-specific modifications. Different requirements can also be placed on galvanized coatings on products designed to meet specific regulatory requirements.

This document does not apply to post-treatment or additional coating of hot dip galvanized products.
