Coating quality detection and physicochemical properties determination of paint film surface

Paint film quality detection and physicochemical properties determination
In the coating industry, the measurement of coating quality is an important step to ensure that the coating meets the appearance and performance requirements. According to different product grades and processing processes, the inspection of coated products or parts is a key step to ensure product quality.

Detection of physicochemical properties of paint film
The physical and chemical properties of coatings are tested in many ways, including the following key properties:

Film gloss: the surface smoothness and reflective ability of the coating.

Liquid resistance: The resistance of the coating to various liquids.

Dry heat resistance: Stability of coating in dry and high temperature environment.

Moisture and heat resistance: the stability of the coating under humid and high temperature conditions.

Film adhesion: The bonding strength between the coating and the substrate.

Film thickness: The measurement of the thickness of the coating, which affects the performance of the coating.

Thermal resistance: The performance of the coating under rapid temperature changes.

Film wear resistance: The ability of the coating to resist wear and abrasion.

Impact resistance: The durability of the coating when impacted by external forces.

Film hardness: hardness characteristics of the coated surface.

Film light resistance: The coating resists aging and color changes caused by light.

Dry and wet resistance: stability of the coating in alternating dry and wet environments.

China has developed relevant standards to measure these properties.

Sample selection and processing
In order to ensure the reliability and comparability of test results, the national standard for sample selection and processing has made the following provisions:

The sample size is 250mm × 200mm, and the sample for wear resistance test is a round plate with a diameter of 100mm and a small hole with a diameter of 8.5mm in the center.

The sample is stored for at least 10 days after completion of coating, and the coating is completely dry before testing.

The sample should be submitted with the relevant report, including the name of the coating, the summary of the coating process and the production time.

The surface of the sample should be smooth and flat, and the coating should not have scratches, bubbles and other defects.

There are not less than three sample test areas, each area is not less than 40mm away from the edge, and the center of the three test areas is not less than 65mm apart.

Through the detection of physical and chemical properties of the paint film, it can be ensured that the coating maintains stable performance under various conditions of use, so as to meet the needs and requirements of the product. The use of these testing methods and standards is helpful to improve the control of coating process and the guarantee of product quality.
