5.1 The test method provides a standard procedure for determining the color of thermoplastic traffic sign materials. This test method can be used in conjunction with various thermoplastic pavement marking specifications to determine that the material conforms to the specifications. Manufacturers of these materials can also use the method to determine the uniformity of thermoplastic traffic marking materials between batches.

5.2 Color standards and colorimeters are slightly different. This test method is only suitable for reporting results and listing information on instrument model names and calibration standards.
