ISO 8130-11-2019 Powder coatings – Part 11: Slope fluidity test

introduction
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document and those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editing rules of ISO/IEC Directive Part 2 (see iso.org/directives).

Please note that certain elements of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patents. Details of any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be found in the introduction and/or ISO list of patent claims received (see iso.org/patents).

This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Paints and Varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, Common Test Methods for paints and varnishes.

The second edition cancels and replaces the technically revised first edition (ISO 8130-11:1997).

The main changes from the previous edition are as follows:

– Added “Terms and definitions” clause;

– The procedure has been revised;

– Added information about loop test results;

— The text has been edited and revised, and normative references have been updated.

A list of all the components in the ISO 8130 series can be found on the ISO website.

Any feedback or questions regarding this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A complete list of these institutions can be found at iso.org/members.html.

1 Range
This document specifies a comparative method for determining the flow characteristics of molten thermoset coating powders along a plane inclined to the horizontal direction.

The purpose of the test methods described in this document is to indicate the degree of melt flow that may occur during the curing of the coating powder. This feature contributes to surface appearance and coverage of sharp edges.

This test is a comparative method to check for batch-to-batch differences in the behavior of a given paint powder. There was no correlation between the results of different composition paint powders.

This method is not suitable for powders characterized according to ISO 8130-6 that have a gel time of less than 1 minute at the test temperature. This method also does not work with textured powders.
